Christmass at Concordia Milwaukee 1955

The renovated chapel at Concordia Milwaukee (†) at Christmass time 1955.    Even though we may not always have appreciated having to attend daily chapel devotions, both morning and evening, those devotional periods really did help to shape our faith life.

In Memoriam: David G Truemper

Today, October 30, is the 5th anniversary of the death of Dave Truemper.
Dave not only distinguished himself as a member of our class, but ultimately distinguished himself as a Doctor of the Church, theologian par exellence. Dave's knowledge of the Lutheran Confessions was recognized throughout the church, though God's gift of Dave to the church was rarely recognized by the faith community that nurtured him in the faith and trained him to take theology seriously.
Those who knew Dave well miss his insights, his friendship, and his unswerving tenacity in telling the Gospel in all its fullness.
"Continued rest eternal grant to your servant David, O Lord, and let light perpetual shine upon him."

The DVD is just shy of 40 minutes in length and makes use of still photos submitted by more than half-a-dozen classmates who attended.

At the Table

Saint Paul Lutheran in Oconomowoc (home parish for Tom & Pat Truebenbach, as well as for Ken "Chief" Gennermann) was where our class gathered for Sunday worship. What a joy it was for us not only to be able to worship together but also to be able to come to the Table of the Lord together to "taste and see that the Lord is good."

Posted below is a short video of two of the tables of classmates who communed. Just in case you don't recognize all of them, you'll see (leaving the Table) Barb & Milt Berner, Bev & Dave Schroeder, Donna & Paul Schedler and Linda & Gil Pingel and (coming to the Table) Carolyn & Will Kassulke, Pat & Bill Bloom, Pam & Dick Arndt, Judy & Dave Mueller and Alva Lea & Jim Pingel.

Though you can't really see the chancel flowers, they were blue and white carnations, provided by Tom & Pat. There was also a vase of 10 white roses, representing the ten classmates who are now with the Lord: Tom Fenner ... Ken Schilling ... Bob Seizinger ... Algimant Kleinat ... Dave Bergen ... Larry Clemetsen ... Jim Schroeder ... Dale McKirgan ... Dave Truemper and Dave Peyer.

50th Reunion ... A Memory to be Savored

The weekend of July 27-28 that the Class of 1959 of Concordia College Milwaukee spent together is now but a memory. But what memories we carry away from those hours we spent together, reminiscing about the life we lived during the six years on Concordia's campus, from entrance into Sexta in September 1953 through graduation from Prima on June 5, 1959.

A total of 31 class members made their way to the Milwaukee area for the weekend festivities which concluded with worship at Saint Paul Lutheran Church in Oconomowoc, followed by an afternoon of food and fellowship at Tom & Pat Truebenbach's home, where we got reacquainted with classmates, some of whom we hadn't seen for 50 years.

We came from California (Schroeder, Graff, Schedler) ... Washington (Gienapp) ... Virginia (Bloom) ... Florida (Arndt, Mennicke) ... Georgia (Steinke) ... Tennessee (Gil Pingel) ... Missouri (Toelke, Schaser, Kassulke) ... Kentucky (Berndt) ... South Carolina (Watt) ... Michigan (Kostizen) ... Ohio (Berner) ... Indiana (Mueller, Albertin, Berg) ... Illinois (Burke, Beversdorf) ... and Wisconsin (Holz, Hasse, Truebenbach, Gennermann, Jim Pingel, Stephan, Malchow, Fitzke, Ambelang and Jorgenson) ! Thanks to all for making the effort and joining the fun.

And, special thanks to Tom & Pat, who hosted the meal on the spacious grounds of their home in Oconomowoc. Helped by family and friends, they were the host and hostess with the mostest!

In coming days and weeks, well be posting memories (and probably some pictures) here on this blog. Those of you who were at the reunion will be given instructions how to post your own comments and memories.

50th REUNION THIS WEEKEND

After months of planning, the weekend of the reunion of the Class of 1959 has arrived. Though the reunion will meet in two venues, 28 of the 52 living members of the class will gather in Oconomowoc WI on Sunday, June 28.

Thirteen will gather for a Saturday evening dinner in Oconomowoc. Fifteen more will join the thirteen on Sunday morning for worship at Saint Paul Lutheran Church in Oconomowoc.

The day will continue with an afternoon of good food, fellowship, and lots of reminiscing at the home of Tom and Pat Truebenbach.

When the weekend is completed, this will be a place to post your own reflections about the reunion weekend.
